INTERVIEW with
Featured Artist
John P. Rasile, Jr.

When did you start painting?

I started painting in high school and had private lessons in the summers with Pearl Newman.

Detail your education …

I've been a lifer at Kent State, attending off and on since '83.  I'm done with classes now and I just graduated this month.  I've had a couple of solo shows in Canton and recently had a piece accepted in the Ohio Art League show at the Columbus museum.

What, so far, is your favorite medium to work with in creating art?

My favorite medium is oil paint, however due to the size of my paintings oils are a bit too costly.  I have been using Acrylic latex and faux finishing glazes.

Where are you headed in the future / career wise ?

I plan on teaching in the future and will soon be substituting.  I'll be going back to school soon for my Masters in Education.

What artist(s) had the most profound influence on you?

My influences range from the Italian masters to Abstract Expressionism.  Pop Art and surrealism are also influential to my work.  Current favorites are Pat Steir, David Reed, and Inka Essenhigh.

What is your favorite thing about Canton?

Like my hometown (Alliance), I love the older architecture.  The theatre in Canton is also great.

Please tell any details about paintings that you have on display elsewhere…

On display currently are Abstract works from my senior show, at the Alliance Bureau of Collections.  Also on display are my horror film paintings at E&C Books, also in Alliance.

John also plays guitar in a rock band called Vicious Cycle.  They have a brand new CD out, hot off the presses, see John for more details.  If you would like to get in touch with him email thedirector@neo.rr.com..  The paintings you see are for sale, and will also be for sale after the show in upcoming virtual store, via our website, www.neoprogressivearts.org.
